Sustainability
The city of Munich and the Oktoberfest organisers are committed to making the festival more sustainable. Here is an overview of environmental measures and initiatives.
Green energy
The festival increasingly uses renewable energy. Many tents and stalls are supplied with green electricity. The city and operators continue to expand the use of sustainable energy sources.
Waste and recycling
Waste separation and recycling are promoted across the grounds. Visitors are encouraged to use the correct bins. Reusable tableware and deposit systems for beer steins help reduce waste.
Water and resources
Water-saving measures and efficient use of resources are part of the sustainability strategy. Breweries and caterers follow guidelines to minimise environmental impact.
Public transport
Using public transport (U-Bahn, S-Bahn, buses) to reach the Theresienwiese is strongly recommended. It reduces traffic and emissions. The festival is well connected by train and metro.
