Safety and Security

The Oktoberfest is a safe and well-organised event. Following the rules and being aware of security measures helps everyone enjoy the festival.

Safety and security at Oktoberfest

Security checks

Security checks are carried out at the entrances to the festival grounds. Bags may be inspected. Cooperate calmly with staff. Large bags and rucksacks are not permitted inside; use the lockers provided.

Alcohol and age limits

In Germany the legal drinking age is 16 for beer and wine and 18 for spirits. ID may be checked, especially in the tents. Outside alcohol is not allowed on the grounds.

Responsible drinking

Drink in moderation and drink water regularly. The one-litre Masskrug is strong; pace yourself and eat enough. Look after your group and do not leave anyone alone if they are unwell.

Emergency services

Police, medical services, and lost-and-found are present and signposted on the grounds. In an emergency, go to the nearest first-aid point or contact festival staff or police.

Prohibited items

Weapons, glass bottles, and other dangerous or prohibited items are not allowed. Follow the instructions of security and staff at all times.
